FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why is this knife sharpener so expensive?

TSPROF K4 sharpening systems are built from high-grade construction steel and 7075-T6 aluminum. Every component is CNC-machined to micron-level tolerances. Final assembly and calibration are performed entirely by hand. This precision manufacturing process allows our systems to maintain angle accuracy within 0.1°. Each newly engineered component undergoes multiple stages of testing and validation before it becomes part of the final product.

2. How long will this sharpener serve?

The TSPROF K4 system is built from high-strength steel and aircraft-grade aluminum, with all clamps and accessories made from the same durable materials.

With proper care, this sharpener can last for many years. Professional sharpeners around the world have been using TSPROF systems for over six years without needing replacements.

3. What is the point in these so called guided systems?

The point is — control. Freehand sharpening depends on your skill: angle and pressure control, consistency — all of that lives in your hands. Most people are inconsistent. Even experienced users are inconsistent under fatigue. A guided system removes that variable.

4. Where do you ship to?

Currently, we only ship to addresses in the USA.

5. Where do you ship from?

Our warehouse is currently located in San Diego, CA 92121, USA.

6. What sharpening stones should I use?

Choose your abrasive based on the purpose of sharpening and the type of steel. Abrasive performance depends not only on hardness, but also on heat treatment and alloy composition. In many cases, the optimal choice for a specific steel can only be determined through practical experience.

General recommendations:

• For softer steels (up to 60 HRC), silicon carbide and aluminum oxide stones work well.

• For harder steels, diamond plates, diamond stones, or CBN abrasives are more effective.

With experience, each sharpener builds a personal set of abrasives suited to their preferred steels and applications.

7. Is there a universal, all-in-one set of abrasive stones?

There is no truly universal, all-in-one set that works optimally for every steel, every hardness level, and every sharpening task.

Steel varies dramatically. 54 HRC German kitchen steel behaves nothing like 65 HRC powder steel. A sharpening stone that cuts one steel efficiently may struggle or load up on another.

Different sharpening purposes. Repairing chips, reprofiling, maintenance, mirror polishing, toothy working edge — each stage benefits from different grit ranges and abrasive types.

Different abrasive behavior. Aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, diamond, and CBN all cut differently. None is “best” at everything.

If you need a zero maintenance set of stones to get into sharpening or a set for sharpening basic kitchen and utility knives, we recommend the TSPROF set of coated diamond plates.

Once you are ready, you can get a set of 7 TSPROF Alpha resin bonded diamond stones. These will cover all possible sharpening tasks.

8. What blade types can this sharpening system handle?

The TSPROF K4 is designed to sharpen an exceptionally wide range of cutting tools.

It handles knives of virtually any geometry, including multitool blades and daggers (using a special spring-type Single Clamp), with blade thickness up to 7 mm. For flexible fillet knives, TSPROF offers special fillet clamps.

It can even handle convex edges using a special Convex Ultra attachment.

9. Can I use this to sharpen scissors, chisels, and other cutting tools?

Yes, the TSPROF K4 can sharpen a variety of cutting tools using the small universal table clamp. This includes scissors, chisels, plane knives, lawn mower blades, ice auger blades, and knives with a single-sided bevel.

10. Can this sharpener handle serrated blades?

Currently, TSPROF sharpeners do not support serrated blades.
